Greetings and salutations. I have revived this long-dormant blog because I have a severe need for attention. Well, that’s not entirely true. I absolutely have a severe need for attention but that’s not the only reason I brought this decaying substack out of its cheaply made coffin. This year, I made it a mission to go through as much of my backlog as possible. My backlog is hundreds if not thousands of games deep at this point so this Sisyphean task will most likely never be completed and will cause my early demise.

“How does your fruitless and impossible goal relate to bringing back this newsletter”, I hear you ask. It’s simple really. I fancy myself a man of impeccable taste and so my backlog is filled with an exquisite and eclectic selection of games. So fascinating is my backlog that I felt it would be a crime not to share these games with the world — and by the world I mean the six people reading this.

Get to the point you idiot

Well, you didn’t have to be so rude about it but okay. I revived this blog because I play way too many video games and want to share them and discuss them. Unfortunately, I can’t stream everything (follow me on Twitch, by the way) and I don’t want to do let’s plays because that would just be me playing games and talking to myself, which I do enough of both on my own and on streams (have I mentioned you should follow me on Twitch?) So instead, I’m going to write about them.

As I make my way through my insurmountable backlog and watch as it somehow gets bigger, I am going to document my journey with these games. Some games I’ll finish, some games I’ll drop, and some games I will regrettably add back to the backlog, forever left to languish. Regardless of whether or not a game actually makes it off my backlog, gets moved down the bench, or is abandoned completely, I will be sharing my thoughts here for all of you. The rare gamers who know how to read. I know there aren’t many of you left, but hopefully, your slow extinction as a species is made a little more tolerable by my ramblings.

So You’re Just Writing Reviews

*insert reader name here*, you ignorant slut! No, I am not just writing reviews. I am writing reviews with flair. Of course, I’ll be reviewing the game in the sense that I’ll write the things I thought were good and bad. But I’m not assigning them an arbitrary score that losers who have never been hugged will argue about. I’m not even gonna be saying whether or not I recommend them. I’ll be writing about them strictly from the perspective of my time with them as I try to clear my backlog.

So, parts will be written in a way similar to a review in that I’ll be discussing what I like and dislike about each game. I’ll write about what I think works and doesn't. But more than that, I’ll be writing about my time with the games. Why they’re on my backlog, to begin with, why I chose to play them when I did, outside factors that affect my experience, etc. These aren’t just going to be write-ups of old games, these will be the chronicles of one man’s journey through an impossible task. So in other words, they’re personal essays. I guess I could have just said that instead of rambling.

Is That It?

Pretty much, yeah. I’ll be writing personal essays about my journey through my backlog. I’ve named it Backlog Busting because I like alliteration and am also very juvenile. Certified Fresh is back, and I’ll go back to writing other things about video games and films, maybe even some proper reviews (without scores, of course, because I can’t give those pesky unhugged losers another reason not to leave their basement), but for now, this is my focus.

Anyway, this probably didn’t need to be a full post all on its own, but I like to ramble, as you’ll soon find out. See you in a few days for the first real entry of Backlog Busting. I hope my busting will make you feel as good as it makes me.
